I put my Dell Optiplex 760 on ebay, I had a bid all week (reading feedback-good buyer)
At the last minute I had another bid (for an extra £1) the bidder had 0 feeback only joined yesterday lived in London (it’s for local pick up) I panicked a little.
While looking at feeback and options available to me, ebay cancelled the bid as a non registered bidder.
PHHEEWW
The listing has gone so I can’t offer a second chance.
But now I am not sure if I want to re list it’s dented my confidence.
Cheers
JohnMay 22, 2018 at 5:24 am #20999I would have thought you should be able to offer a second chance John – I would contact ebay to check:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/home
Scroll to the bottom of the page for contact
I had something similar with a camera and managed to get a second chance offer out.
May 22, 2018 at 6:18 am #21000Thanks blacklion
I followed your link it it did show the listing in my orders then it came to this.
This listing (**********) has been removed, or this item isn’t available.
I think I did have an email (now deleted) from ebay saying to re list I would need to fill in details again.
Cheers
JohnMay 22, 2018 at 8:20 pm #21049John at the bottom of that link you can get ebay to call you back. If it needs youto pick a listing just pick any other one. When they ring you back explain everything and see if they can help. I’ve noticed one case recently where ebay and paypal now try and refer you to eachother – but in this case as there’s been no payment it is an ebay issue for definite and they may be able to help – worth a (free) phone conversation anyway – either with the second chance offer or reactivating the listing
May 23, 2018 at 7:13 am #21057Thanks Blacklion I will try it, allthough I have no other listings to pick. I will look into it.
Edit:
I just this second remebered, since the cancelled bid I have changed the HDD and re installed Windows so the old listing is deader. It has the TB HDD on if I sold it to the other bidder I would need to put TB HDD back in. This is now in my other rig.
So I am going to need to manually re list with the different HDD.
Cheers
JohnJune 3, 2018 at 8:39 pm #21517What is going on, I relisted it (last Sunday for 7) it’s been doing ok.
I had 6 bids (last time I looked) with bidders having 400 odd 100% feedback.
I didn’t see the end, and looked in my email, I had another scam bid and ebay again cancelled it.
johnbarry ses no more.
Cancellation has wiped the other bids so I can’t offer a secon chance, it#s completely gone.
This is the second time in 3 weeks. Ebay say not registered on ebay how the H–l did they bid.
We had to cancel bids for the buyer, rtgrartp_0, because they aren’t registered on eBay:

JohnJune 3, 2018 at 8:47 pm #21519It used to be possible to tick a box or two at the bottom of the listing you are creating to block people with less than a certain number of feedback or with bad feedback from bidding on your item. I haven’t listed an action type sale in ages so don’t know if it’s still there.
June 3, 2018 at 9:07 pm #21520I just tried to create an auction style listing but wasn’t able to find an option to block new or no-feedback users. I guess it’s been removed. But I did google your problem and it appears if a ebay member gets banned all his bids are cancelled. I think new people register and then start bidding like crazy and ebay unregisteres them. I think when ebay says “not registered” it actually means “no longer registered”.
June 3, 2018 at 9:11 pm #21521Cheers tadka
I have all that setup, you just can’t exclude everything, you can only block 1 with 3 or 2 with 1 type of thing. You can’t stop no member bids. you can block a bidder if you know the user name and then you can only block future not past listings.
Buyer requirements can help you reduce your exposure to buyers who make transactions more difficult or expensive.
To allow specific eBay members to bid on or purchase your items regardless of the requirement(s) you select, add them to your buyer requirements exemption list
Select requirements
Important: Select buyer requirements carefully as it may reduce your selling success. The requirement(s) you select will be applied to your current and future listings, except as otherwise noted. Learn more about buyer requirements.
Buyers without a PayPal account
Block buyers who don’t have a PayPal account. (Note: This block only applies to future listings and can be disabled per item on the Sell Your Item form.)
This requirement can help you to reduce the risk of unpaid items, as PayPal account holders have up to an 80% lower unpaid item rate.
Buyers with unpaid items recorded
Block bidders and buyers who have
unpaid item(s) recorded on their accounts withinmonth(s)
This requirement can help you to avoid bidders and buyers who have a history of not paying for the items they agreed to purchase.
Buyers in locations to which I don’t postBlock buyers whose primary delivery address is in a location I don’t post to.
This requirement can help you to avoid buyers who purchase your items without realising that you don’t post to their location.Buyers with policy breach reports
Block buyers who have
breach of policy report(s) withinmonth(s)
This requirement can help you block buyers who have breached eBay policies.
Buyers with a negative Feedback score
Block buyers who have a Feedback score of or lower.
This requirement can help you to avoid buyers who have received more negative than positive Feedback from other eBay members.Cheers
JohnJune 3, 2018 at 10:00 pm #21522The last 3 things I have bought have all initially been lost by being beaten at the last moment by unregistered bidders. However I have then contacted the sellers and advised them that I was a genuine bidder who had the highest bid before the unregistered bidders, and luckily won all 3 items at the second auction.
The stuff was all “Collect only” – surely there must be some way that Ebay can stop people from hundreds of miles away from bidding on stuff that it would be impossibly expensive for them to buy/collect. A 50 mile radius of the vendor say ?
Never trust an atom - they make up everything !
June 4, 2018 at 7:01 am #21529If you are looking to sell on a collect only basis I would have thought that Gumtree would be a more sensible option.
June 4, 2018 at 7:19 am #21530tadka to block you use Help & contact type in block bidders /
Managing bidders and buyers / Add buyer requirementsTo block specific bidders (if you know the user name) more than one are seperated with ,
ie
fred, bill, harry
That sounds more like it not registered” it actually means “no longer registered.
Boris bidders have never contacted me after cancellation. They should update block bidders
to those not local, like 10 mile radius.I do think compared to years ago, ebay has lost (and losing more) buyers & sellers
They now offer free listing, no final value fee, £1 max final value fee, Pay only when you sell this month
Schedule 20 listings per month for free.Cheers
JohnJune 4, 2018 at 8:27 am #21536Ebay seem to be trying – just not doing a great job of it – to sort out the dodgy bids/rep they’ve acquired, justifiably or not.
I’ve recently had 2 cases where Ebay have emailed me stating the “The eBay listing you’re interested in is no longer available ” after supposedly successfully purchasing each of them as a “Buy it Now” – one was for Calvin Klein boxers, for a family member without an Ebay account and the other was for a W10 Pro license.
The boxers didn’t arrive and I’ve raised a case with Ebay, the seller of the W10 Pro license refunded my money the same day. I might have kept that one anyway, but in the email he sent me, there was a section with this:-
Windows 10 Pro official download:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10ISOYou can use http://www.froggie.sk to change language
The froggie/sk part concerned me as it was from back in Vista times ( and some postings on the Microsoft website indicated it was dodgy ) so along with the removal it didn’t warrant the risk. Fair do’s though, he was quick in refunding.
It’s the first time that Ebay has done that and it hasn’t make me lose confidence as such, but it does focus the mind.
Edited to re-highlight text which got lost when posting reply.
June 4, 2018 at 1:30 pm #21538I’m not a fan of eBay, buying or selling. I only now buy cheap tat like stuff off them. And even then lately I’ve been using Ali express over eBay. If I’m really not in a rush for a cheap item, I’ll use wish. Stupidly cheap but long waits.
June 4, 2018 at 8:35 pm #21558It is very rarely that I buy anything from Ebay, and usually only “Buy It Now”. I know what it is I want and my first port of call is usually Amazon or some other online seller. Then I take a trip to Ebay and look at alternatives there, weigh up pro’s and cons of buying from whichever.
Last 2 purchases were a boot liner and floor mats for the iX20. Ebay had a boot liner from Poland and floor mats from the Czech Republic, both buy it now. They were less expensive than anywhere else, very well made and fitted perfectly. I am very pleased with both items. The Hyundai factory liner and mats were over twice as expensive.

Maybe gumtree next
Duke I have never heard of Ali express, did a search it seems $ not £
Bob I tend to buy like yourself, though always going for the cheapest.
Cheers
JohnJune 5, 2018 at 9:06 am #21569If you change it to UK, it will give you £s. Ali express is the consumer arm of Alinaba. The company is huge. Apparently bigger than Amazon.
Example
June 5, 2018 at 9:05 pm #21580John, Gumtree is not without problems: I have had people agree to buy, then try to underpay me. Recently Gumtree has begun to bombard me with offers for stuff I don’t want. There are also people who ignore the “Collection Only” bit of an ad, and try to get you to post it for the same price. Much like Ebay really, but without protection.

I'm out.June 5, 2018 at 9:54 pm #21583Thanks Duke I will look into it.
I am weary of gumtree (don’t know why) I do now thanks Bob.
I think I tend to go ebay for protection.
I tried to re list, it said I have reached my limit, twice they prevoiusly canceled.
I have just had a chat on ebay help, they say I have sold and reached my limit for this month. I explained ebay cancelled I didn’t get paid. They have lifted the restriction and insited I can block, I insit you can’t. They suggested if I put it on as BIN then someone with 0 feedback (just joined, or non member) can’t bid. That then defeats the Auction.
If I put it BIN cheap I lose, if I put it expensive I may not get bids.
I did close my ebay account (had for many years) and opened another so my limts are low. It does keep saying I have £440 left of £500 yet they seperate it. Like 60 of the amount is for Computers, £40 is for kettles etc. So quickly I reached my limit for Computers and I have never sold a computer on ebay.
I decided today, to keep the Dell and I was gonna try to sell the Lenovo on ebay.
I give in.
I have always thought ebay is going down, now I think no wonder.
Edit: Duke I tried UK and it just gave 73 UK sales.
Cheers
JohnJune 6, 2018 at 12:20 pm #21596I find items on Ebay can often be found cheaper on Amazon, and IMHO Amazon gives more protection. 3 times over the years I had a dispute with an Amazon delivery and/or seller. Every time Amazon refunded first and dealt with the seller afterwards. I always do price comparisons for anything, but taking into account whether the company or seller might be reliable and trustworthy.
I have an account with Viking ( also known as Office Depot) – http://tinyurl.com/y9mr5on5
This month I found them cheaper for my Ink Cart’s than the other sources I use: Ebuyer and Cartridge World. Viking also send them out P&P free if small packets and you have an account. They are pretty good for paper too: a wide choice. I buy a 2500-sheet box of HP Quick Pack A4 from them and share it across the family. They are expensive for other stuff though.
