This came with my mobile phone.

My new shaver has a USB charger cable, can I use the above to charge it.
Cheers
JohnMay 18, 2018 at 9:31 am #20840Not possible to say without knowing the spec of the chargers concerned, including voltage, output capacity and connection details.
May 18, 2018 at 9:52 am #20841Sadly I don’t have that info, so all in all best not to use it then.
Cheers
JohnMay 18, 2018 at 10:11 am #20842The mobile phone charger should have a small label on it showing its spec.
Never trust an atom - they make up everything !
May 18, 2018 at 4:00 pm #20859Boris is right JB: somewhere on the phone charger, will be stamped or labelled information (probably tiny script, might need a magnifier) giving the ratings in Volts & Milli amps. Somewhere in the User Guide for the shaver, or stamped/labbeled on its body, will be the same information. Examples:
My phone charger –

My razor/body hair trimmer –

Click on each photo to enlarge if you need to, but some information (as in the phone charger) is really tiny. Might be easier to photograph the info you can’t read, then blow it up in Google Photos.

I'm out.May 18, 2018 at 4:25 pm #20862I swap and change my usb plugs around. They are clever enough to work out what the appliance is and needs.
May 18, 2018 at 6:39 pm #20867sos I know about the specs on the charger, I don’t know the specs on the appliance, nor what it means.
I was using the amazon link & mine as an example, the charger (dads) is not here I was considering getting him a shaver with USB cable to plug into the charger he said he has. I feel it too risky and just wondered if it was risky.
Cheers
JohnMay 18, 2018 at 6:44 pm #20868They are not compatible.
The hair trimmer output is 3 Volts and the Phone charger is 5 Volts.
May 18, 2018 at 6:58 pm #20869May 18, 2018 at 8:48 pm #20873John – looking at the review for that shaver, I can see that it came with a lead that plugs into the shaver at one end and has a standard size USB plug at the other.
Something like THIS will do for you. The shaver is charged by the USB lead ( 5v ) and most appliances will just take the amount of power they need to charge up the battery. The guy even says he uses a PowerBank to charge it – it takes 8 hours to provide a 45 min use.
I have one of THESE that I use – I think Duke and PM use them too – there are three sets of ( 2 ) USB sockets, one set has a 1A output, another set has a 2.1A output and the third set has a 2.4A output. They are for anything that takes the 5v USB power, from a mobile, to a tablet, a SatNav, to a Vape battery, to a battery charger for re-chargeables.
If you have a 13A plug that has a USB socket on the body, that is all you need. I got one with the wife’s Kindle, my Sony mobile, and various others.
May 18, 2018 at 9:43 pm #20874Nice one JayCee I will get this if your sure it’ll do
I do have this for my mobile but Alan said They are not compatible.

Cheers
JohnMay 18, 2018 at 11:28 pm #20877Yes I do use those type of power banks. I have many around the house. And anything that has a USB plug that needs charging, it gets plugged in. I’ve never had a single issue
As I said above, just plug it in, it will sort itself out.
You could even charge it via your PC or laptop, but that will only give you a max output of 500ma at 5v, so would take an age, over twice what the original car get would take. Assuming you said it was rated for 1amp 3v. So the pc would attempt the full 500ma and just push (step down to) 3w. I assume.

John – I’ve just googled “huawaei phone charger” and got THIS as the first hit. It looks identical to yours. As the write up states the output is 5v / 2A. That should do a stand-up job of charging your shaver.
Alan might possibly have got confused, because I think he’s referring to the photo of the BaByliss for Men charger plug ( 3v ) that Bob posted as an example of where to look for the info!!
May 19, 2018 at 6:30 am #20881JCD, you’re right. I use that power bank to charge almost everything, it’ll even do my Chromebook, slowly compared to the supplied charger but mostly that’s no problem.
May 19, 2018 at 8:33 am #20882Thanks Duke, JayCee, PM
Duke I do charge with the PC, this is for Dad and he has no tech stuff to plug in.
Since last night I have got Dad a shaver with a UK plug, far easier for him.
It’s good to know I can use my mobile adapter to charge my shaver, that is USB only.
Cheers

John – a sometimes forgotten USB socket is on some modern TV’s. While Dad may not have one, there’s also THESE which can easily do the job too.?
May 19, 2018 at 9:50 am #20887Hopefully the device will have the means to manage the voltage difference between the 3 volts of the device and the allegedly 5 volts of the charger. Chargers do usually run a little above the battery voltage inn order to push something into the battery and rely on the device to manage the results. However, there are a couple of possible issues. Some modern chargers can put out up to 24 volts as some down stream devices can need that much, this is supposed to sorted out by a dialogue between the devices and the lead that connects them. If you really want to get confused read up the various stages/grades/levels of the USB specification through the years. Putting 24 volts into a 3 volt device would be a highly undesirable situation. Generally having a charger able to supply more current than the device needs should be fine, as the device should take only what it can an manage the issue. Having a charger pump out far too much voltage will likely fry the device. Older batteries were subject to different rules— charge a 12 volt or even a 6 volt car battery with no controls using a 24 volt charger
stand backon second thoughts, best not to try!May 19, 2018 at 9:57 am #20888Sorry if I was confused by the pictures. I thought these were the actual ones.

No worries Alan, you were correct with your judgement, but I just posted it as a demo of where JB should look to get the Spec’s.

He does have USB on his TV I thought it was for media in not out.
