I needed to get myself a new case, so went for a CiT G-Force from my local shop. It’s the first case I’ve bought with cable management behind the motherboard.

Bloody hell that was hard work! ?

I’m used to tidying up cables, but this was something else. Everything that I usually do went out the window, and it’s taken me almost a full day to swap cases. I usually pop the PSU in first, then the motherboard with CPU and cooler installed, then add the rest.

I put the PSU in, then realised that the hard drives go behind the normal spot, so pulled it back out. I put the 3.5″ drive in, then the PSU, then plugged the power cable in. I realised then that I’d got the LED cables and case cables caught behind the hard drive, and that the hard drive wasn’t sitting right as it was backwards. I then get the SSDs wrong, the optical drive wrong, and even the motherboard wrong! ???

I’ve finally got it all put together the way that it should be, cleaned and cleared my desk to re route the cables, and got it in place, only to find out that I’ve done something to the LED controller for the fans to stop it from working.

I’ve ordered a pizza instead, much easier!

Oops! Forgot the link to the case ?

Yes I have had a time a bit like that. We replaced some blinds and decided a short while before the job that the curtains had to go. Cue plastering and painting. I did the same job in the office with the same scrabble.

Then the shower in the main bathroom was (a) covered in lime scale and (b) needed other work to adjust the doors, it is all done now, at last. I am now off to bed, oh and the safe key would not work, I ordered some replacements at some really silly money, that done the key works perfectly… I HATE mechanical technology..

I just stuff the wires where the dvd drive would normally be. The zip tie then secure. Like suspended birds nest.

I’d love a posh glass case, but cba doing the cables and I also hate LEDs. So I just stick to my very old cases.

That’s what I usually do too Steve, but there’s no drive cage in this case. It was a bit of a shock ?

Modular PSUs are almost a must have these days, they’ve come down a lot in price.

I just built my first PC with no drives attached, it has an M2 SSD on the motherboard. It sure is a lot tidier inside.

I have had a Coolermaster N300 for about 4 years now:

I do have a DVDRW fitted, a LiteOn which has been through several cases and builds but continues working whenever I need it, which is not often. I also have a Sony USB DVDRW, which gets even less use now but is always there if I need it. It is quite OTT as a case for my needs, but there is a huge space above the DVD which I use for cable management. I have 2x 120 mm front, 1x 120mm top and 1x 120 mm rear fans, all hardly heard even with my electric ears on. I could really use a smaller case, but with all that air (assisted by an Arctic Pro Freezer CPU setup) moving through a big empty space over the warm bits, nothing shows on CPUID HW Monitor above 32ºC. The exhaust air is only ever slightly warm, even on a hot day.

So I don’t have to use much of the cable management, which is good btw, mainly the 24 pin main lead and SATA cables.
