The pilot for Edd’s new program is on Youtube, I like it. Hope it gets a proper run.
May 7, 2018 at 10:02 am #20426He is a good mechanic, well that is presuming he does not get the pro’s in off camera but he does come across very wet sometimes. Mind you the other one, the one that buys the motors in the program that slips my my mind come’s across as a red coat from buttlins. My biggest gripe with that program was he bought a car, ed did it up and then sell it for a few hundred quid profit discounting the fact the couple of weeks work ed puts in they must of lost £2000 + on each car 🙂 None the less I’ll be taking a look 🙂

May 7, 2018 at 3:26 pm #20434Mike Brewer who was the other half of the duo also owns several garages in the UK, a mate of mine purchased an Audi A4 (??) or similar from one of his garages about 12 months ago. Car was delivered to his H/A, exactly as described with the addition that if not as described or as you had hoped for we return it. He bought it part exch and his ‘old car’ was collected by them from his H/A about 3 weeks later.
He was very pleased with the transaction.

May 7, 2018 at 6:25 pm #20442I think both Edd and Mike are honest about what they do, but Edd comes across sometimes as so enthusiastic, he sounds a bit naive. Having watched all his old stuff more than once, I will be looking at his new venture. As an ex-workshop foreman of a business that worked on lots of Classics, I enjoy the mechanical work side of the shows very much and can appreciate that Edd is a very good mechanic/technician, with a wide knowledge and experience. I often found myself thinking “You will probably do THIS next, Edd“. It was gratifying when he did, because, like Edd, I was the kind of mech who would think on my feet to solve a problem, by any means available.
I knew he would be back in one way or another.

I'm out.May 7, 2018 at 6:33 pm #20443I do prefer without Mike, not cos I don’t like him, I just prefer the geeky stuff. Saying that I was thinking how better it was without Mike taking time away from the geeky stuff, and Edd does one, and returns when the mates had soon all the bits I’d of found most interesting.
So mixed bag that for me.
The guys house and set up looks stunning. Been Norway once, up North, very pretty place, mighty cold (Especially when camping and swimming), and very very expensive.
Did you see he had a tesla too. Tesla is big in Norway. I think the have the most Teslas per pop than any other country.
May 7, 2018 at 6:43 pm #20446Bob, the older cars were, or appeared to be, easier to work on with minimal tools, though of course that should not have been something to affect your operation. I saw his latest show, thanks PM, but while he got there and clearly helped the project to arrive I felt that the editing glossed over and left a little to be desired with several of the interesting bits left out. Not his fault and his hallmark side talks on why and how to do things was still there. I always thought he was as keen to impart knowledge on how to get things done as he was to do the job. The was the best part for me, though my doing much days are somewhat passed now. I did spend time this morning trying to restore the plastic headlight covers, a thankless task I found. I am not sure if they are as good as they could or should be but time and my energy ran out so I wrapped things up and headed out again. I don’t thing I could pull an engine out in just over an hour without a hoist or pit and single handed any more!
May 7, 2018 at 7:20 pm #20448Just watched the video in HD 1080p. Fantastic, Nolan, I was gripped, TY very much!
I have carried out similar conversions in the distant past, but as an ex-grease monkey, I was absorbed by the work. I will follow Edd’s YT’s as and when I can.
The Golf GTi was first of course although the French tried to follow with the Peugeot 205 GTi, the Mk1 version being a total death trap IMO: we recovered so many of these on their roofs and sides, and so many, mostly young, drivers injured. One was a Fatal, having hit a tree and a lamp post on the way into a field, where it was found on its roof, which had collapsed into the body. The Golf/Rabbit was considerably safer. I see from the rear badges that the Golf in the video was a Rabbit, which was the version for the US market.
Cheers, Bob.

The worst two a/c to polish were the Sioux:

And the Alouette:

Just think about going over all those ‘bubbles’ with several soft cloths and a bottle of polish. It took hours and wore fingers down. None of us wanted that job, so they put it on a Rota. I workedout when my turn was due and managed to put in for a handy Course. Eventually I had to take a turn or two. Don’t know how you can source this stuff in Civvy Street, but it would be useful to know some serving RAF/AAC technicians!
