This one came up a while back under the matter of an eBay scam. I signed up to ClearScore to see what it was about and it has now been running for a few weeks. I am not impressed, the data is very incomplete not just for the historical data issue that was previously discussed and though I have not spotted any obvious fraud attempts it does concern me that it can miss so much. OK I changed my utilities a while back last year and the ceasing of an old supplier has now been noted – though not the start with the current supplier. The available credit limit is somewhere way less than the real figure. This does not affect me, but might sucker some into thinking that they could take on more debit than they really should. There is the constant assumption that borrowing, rather than prudence is the aim. I only signed up to see if anything weird happened, not to know how much debt I could collect. I will see what the next few weeks shake out but currenlty it earns my ‘could be better’ mark.

Works for me, and seems to have all my back accounts utilities and longtime debt. Though it’s just ment to be a peak in time rather than a full blooded affair. After all it’s free.

It brought an issue to my attention in Feb that I would of missed untill I had non payment of debt bills on my door mat. Someone took out an online catalogue in my name.

Its good as an first layer of defence. Plus you get a monthly notification when your next update arrives. Which is good as I forget alot lately.

It could be too early to show up a clear pattern and my usage could be too far off the wall compared to what they expect. They only found one bank account and that was an executor account that closed a while back. Credit cards that get little use appear not to be counted.

I agree that reminders every month are a good idea, – and not just for this purpose. The mobile, desk top and my wife’s wall chart are now key elements for managing reminders and knowing when additional appointments can be taken onboard. Currently the ones from ClearScore have only been loan sales puff, but that should change.

Currently on-demand bills take a huge priority on my to do list, so it is currently; get bill, check bill details, pay bill, file copies.

I tried this out initially as I needed a credit score for a mortgage, I thought it would do. It basically serves as an ” easy access portal” to Equifax.

It’s sole benefit is it is free. I have had quite a few ” Loans specially prepared for you” type emails – I unsubscribed and thy appear to have diminished, if not stopped.

I queried with them some missing accounts and incorrect numbering of the account shown and this was their reply:-

            Hi John,

Thanks very much for your email.

If some of your financial accounts seem to be missing from your report, this may be because:
            • They appear under a different company name
            • Your lender does not share their information with Equifax (some don’t)
            • Your account is new and hasn’t been added to your report yet. If an account has been recently opened, it may take up to 6 weeks to show on your credit report while Equifax waits for an update from the lender. Keep checking your report regularly for any updates.
            • Your account is registered under a previous address and you are yet to update this with the lender. If you have recently updated your details to your current address, this may also take up to 6 weeks to show on your report
            • If a current account is missing and doesn’t have an overdraft, it may not be considered as a ‘credit account’ and so may not show up on your report.
            • If the account is more than 10 years old, it could be missing from your report because it is unlikely that the credit reference agencies will still hold this older data.

If you suspect something is incorrectly missing from your report, you can either contact the lender or you can fill in a dispute form to get this corrected with Equifax directly: https://www.clearscore.com/dispute

I would also like to inform you that your income, savings and assets do not affect your credit report, score or the validation process.

Also, savings accounts and other investments will not be displayed on your report, as we only show accounts with credit facilities.

However, we do show current accounts that have an overdraft facility, such as mortgage accounts, credit cards, and loans etc.

Further to your query, I understand that the account number showing on your ClearScore report is incorrect.

It’s important to note that there are occasions where account numbers need to be encrypted for security purposes, and so won’t match the actual account numbers you have on your card or statement.

This is a security measure put in place to minimise the chance of your details being obtained fraudulently.

If you recognise the other details on this account, such as the account provider, opening date and the payment history, it may be that the account number has been encrypted in this instance.

If you don’t recognise the account, then you’ll need to dispute this with Equifax. You can do that here: https://www.clearscore.com/dispute

I hope this clears things up for you.

            Many thanks,
            Kaksha

They also quoted this to me in an initial reply to my query:-

            Hi there,

This is the ClearScore team. Thanks for your enquiry.

This is confirmation that we’ve received your message and we’ll look to get back to you as soon as possible, usually within 3 working days. In the meantime, you may want to check our FAQs and help content to see if your question has already been answered: https://help.clearscore.com

            How ClearScore works
It’s important to note that ClearScore is not a credit credit reference agency, and lenders do not use ClearScore to carry out credit checks on you.

We provide you with access to the credit data that Equifax hold on you, which banks and lenders will use when assessing your credit worthiness.

Lenders will not be able to see how ClearScore is showing your credit information to you. So if there is something not quite right in how we’re displaying your information, this will not have any effect on your credit worthiness.

            That about says it all.

Thank you JayCeeDee it does explain much of the difference, though no current accounts even with overdraft facilities appear, perhaps because they are not showing a negative balance – and have not for a long time. The same also applies to some credit cards, but they may not be declared to or be known to Equifax.

That was a good point about unsubscribing, I will look to unsubscribe from the loan offers.

              All in all thank you.

I’ve found Clearscore to be pants recently – it was quite up to date recently but now it’s a bit of a joke. Noddle is far better for showing all of my accounts etc. So now I just check Noddle. Time saved!
