It’s my favorite time of the year again 🙂 Anyone having a flutter. I also see that @blacklion1725 as getting of the couch today and running, 12/1 in the National. Good luck BL ?

Don’t generally bother with the National (especially after a bad Cheltenham for me) – but can’t ignore that now can I! think I’ll have a bit of each way about that – cheers mate 🙂

Your Welcome, I’ll be putting a couple of quid on it but I’ll be having a bigger bet on an other, I am sure of that. Although for the past two years I have won on the national and Scottish national each time so I can not see my luck lasting so may be a bit more frugal this year. ?

Anyone picking a particular horse you can get the best price here – and loads of offers (normally new customers) here. (You’ll know this already I’m sure!) 14s on my namesake at Betfair and Sporting Bet.

I prefer to go to the bookies, it’s all part of the day. I’ll be at the paper shop at about 6 to get the Star for the pullout and spend a couple of hours studying then I’ll be at the bookies for 9. Some bacon butties ordered about 10. Maybe a few bets elsewhere to. After that a nice steady day.

Agree mate especially the trip back to collect if you’re licky enough. Since its on so late though I won’t be able to as I’ll be on a train. I’ve backed myself to win at 14/1. Good luck and enjoy the day mate.

I believe Blacklion has the best chance although I will be keeping a close eye on the price of seeyouatmidnight. I also believe this could be the year of a female jockey winning which brings me to baie des iles.

Not that I would trust anything I have mentioned above.!

I fell out withe the National some years ago. Horses being injured or shot for the sake of entertainment I finally found repugnant.

Arch Linux, on a Ryzen 7 1800X, 32 GB, 5 (yes -5) HDs inc 5 SSDs, 4 RPi 3Bs + 1 RPi 4B - one as an NFS server with two more drives, PiHole (shut yours), Plex server, cloud server, and other random Pi stuff. Nice CoolerMaster case, 2 x NV GTX 1070 8GB, and a whopping 32" AOC 1440P monitor.

They might as well have called it West Ham…..shocking year for me…cracking bit of Rock and chips at Southend took the edge off..but betting-wise I’m under a curse at the moment.

Yep I believe I am on a bad run although Ill try again in the scotish national. And I doubt I’ll win the lotto tonight but I can live in hope.

I don’t think anyone involved or watching liked seeing horses killed, but it is a fact that a broken leg for a horse is still near impossible to repair at this time and too great an emotional trauma for any horse. (In another 10 years stem cell/bone rebuilding tech just might make it viable).

Putting the very demanding Aintree Course aside for a minute, hunters and steeple-chasers actually like jumping and racing, and some horses are quite competitive even without a jockey (just watch some of them jump the fences when they have lost their jockey).

The debate should not be over whether Hunt or steeplechase races are evil, but whether Aintree is too demanding. I’m pretty sure that any accidents on the course will be thoroughly investigated and further steps will be taken to reduce the future probability of such accidents. IMO no-one will have viewed Aintree as a gladiatorial event in which humans and animals are killed and injured. Apart from actually liking their animals, the cost of ownership and upkeep/training of a horse are far too high for any owner to lightly throw away any horse’s life just for public entertainment.

The Liverpool echo and the mirror just reported that all 38 runners made it back to the stables. Saints was a bit shook up but ultimately fine.
