I just could not believe the degree of stupidity of the Aussie cricket team in tapering with the cricket ball in such an obvious manner! Beeb Link

I just hope that someone will now go through each delivery of the last Ashes test to check for similar tampering. It would be a bitter-sweet moment to have a whole Ashes series declared void!

They are not unique in this, if memory serves me right, weren’t the MCC team involved in something similar some years ago?

Iir Atherton was caused of this (dirt in pocket) about 20 years ago.

While not condoning it, I do not think Atherton was too dumb in using dirt, but using highly visible fluorescent yellow tape takes a special degree of stupidity!

Ian Botham and Bob Willis once confessed to using a well-grown thumbnail to pick at the seam stitching of the ball. Not being an out and out cricket fan, I am not sure exactly what effect the practice had upon performance.

Those two wrecked the Aussies (and almost everyone else) with bat and ball, a few times, as I recall.

When the Thought Police arrive at your door, think -
              I'm out.
