I recall on MM you was band from talking Soaps.
Does it apply on Forumite
Cheers
JohnMarch 13, 2018 at 7:07 am #17562I assume you mean TV Soaps (or ‘Reality’ survival shows). Both have zero interest to me, but equally I could see others having similar feelings about Game of Thrones. I think if there is a section for TV & Entertainment it would be difficult to exclude a category that perhaps accounts for half the viewing content.
March 13, 2018 at 8:46 am #17563If you want to talk soaps JB go ahead although East Enders may be pushing it in my humble opinion ?

That’s one we gave up on years ago, this year we gave up on Coronation Street, now considering giving up on Emmerdale. Not much left to talk about. We watch the ossy ones.
I say we as I have no choice I only have 1 TV.
Cheers
JohnMarch 13, 2018 at 11:33 am #17565I dont mind a bit of corrie, I watch the early ones from the 80’s when there on at 6 in the morning and I’ll tune in to the new ones when there ready to finally kill off pat. I dont mind emmerdale either. Some times they do some realy good stunts in it such as the plane crash, helicopter crash, explosions etc… I use to drink in the woolpack when I had a pub near there but it’s nothing like it his on TV inside, outside is the same, post office across road etc…

March 13, 2018 at 12:39 pm #17567I could never be bothered with Corrie, it was like being spoon-fed mush and am-dram!! I tried Crossroads but very soon gave up on it. Eastenders was novel for the first few episodes and then mimicked Corrie, the Aussie soaps were just too Aussie and soapy, Emmerdale and the others may have improved over their former cohorts but I’d been driven away by then.
I suppose the closest to a soap that I “got” was The Royal – which wasn’t really a soap!!
March 13, 2018 at 1:17 pm #17568Heartbeat I am a fan of. I collect bit’s and bobs from the program and I am building the box set up bit by bit. “Aidansfield Arms” not sure of it’s proper name now but a very expensive drink. I have been to gophland a few times and it’s a pleasant place.
The Royal I also liked but I am funny about watching programs that involve hospitals or medical theme’s.

March 13, 2018 at 1:31 pm #17569Yes – I was a big fan too and watched them from the start through the various incarnations. I always thought of it as a police drama, rather than a soap.
Hospital based programmes have to have that little extra something to appeal. Current faves are Chicago Med, tied in with Fire and PD, and the Good Doctor.
March 13, 2018 at 1:39 pm #17570I have also been watching and recording London Burning on Drama and that’s been superb. Plenty of action in it but again it’s a little like watching a Medical program with all the injuries and so on. They did put The early episodes of “The Bill” on drama not so long ago and then it stopped and went back to the 2000 era.
Not dramas, but I have also been recording old films of Film4, things from 40’s on wards. It’s relaxing sometimes watching an old western or war film and often helps me chill on evening if I am stressed which is often. I watched Colditz last night.

March 13, 2018 at 2:27 pm #17576One of the problems with watching the old re-runs is the action effects -they’ve been improved massively year on year for the past 20 – 30 years, but when we watch them again, it looks like amateur hour, which is odd, because they impressed us at the time.
March 13, 2018 at 2:37 pm #17577Sure. I just watch them though to get out of modern times. A bit like listening to my Football on a sw/mw valve radio. Any opportunity I get to turn of the tech and revert back to a time before I was even born the better.

March 13, 2018 at 4:03 pm #17580SWMBO is completely lost in Call The Midwife atm, never misses it. That’s when I disappear into the spare room and the desktop. I love mostly drama, good cop stuff like Shetland (it’s different to the rest) Strike, Collateral and line of Duty. Documentaries, Wildlife, History. And any film with Jason Statham, except The Expendables, because Stallone is in it and kills it. I must have watched Hummingbird about 6 times now.
The only show like a soap that I ever liked was Last of the Summer Wine and I can still watch old episodes now. Enders is full of moaning murderers and broken marriages, Corrie I have no clue about and Emmerdale I have not watched since it was just a Farm.
Lee, I’m blathering again, move it if you want!???

I'm out.March 13, 2018 at 4:22 pm #17582Not a soap, but SWMBO and I are both fans of Scandinavian detective series e.g. The Bridge, Modus etc. They do however suffer from sub-title fatigue – thank heavens for the pause button.
When we want to see the way the French handle trouble-makers (old style rubber truncheon and or Glock) then Spiral takes a lot of beating as do the suspects. Guilty until proved innocent thats the way to do it!

Yes also a big favorite of mine although I preferred it before the actor playing compo passed. There was one episode they made after he passed which I thought was great where they was up in there usual hill’s reminiscing about compo and antics.

Ditto for Last of the Summer Wine and I still watch old episodes now.
Almost a mirror image of me Bob ?
– I also like the French (English sub-titled) “Spiral”, various Scandi and the US “Longmire”cop series.
Luckily Call The Midwife has just finished again ?

Forest Of Dean (definitely badgers, wild boars and goshawks [and possibly deer])

March 13, 2018 at 7:14 pm #17596Lee I had a peep at corrie only to find Pat is still in.
I do record and watch (when on my own) a lot on National Geo. crime Investigation etc. 24hrs in Police Custody. I got fed up of Motorway Police – Police Interceptors, it’s more what the coppers had for breakfast that day.
Cheers
JohnMarch 13, 2018 at 7:23 pm #17600I don’t have sky or the like. I run my TV’s through Tvheadend and Kodi and record all sorts mostly from film4 through the day London’s burning on drama and other misc stuff including Marple when she is on. Once the hard drive is full I put a new one in.
Wild at heart is another I liked which will be due to be put itv 3 again soon but if I really like something for example poiret, Heartbeat, Sherlock holemes with Jeremy Brett, yes prime minister/minister or poridge I will buy on DVD.
I also have all the Fred Dibnah documentries I believe.
