I purchased an item from Tesco.com to collect tomorrow.
For collection I need order number and proof ID.
Someone else will be collecting, they need the order number last four digits of my card and there ID. Then they need a ticket for the car park. Then put my reg in the ticket machine. It’s only a small item not available instore and certainly not worth the palaver.
That’s the first and certainly the last time I shop at tesco.com
I should have looked on Argos
Cheers
JohnFebruary 7, 2018 at 12:15 pm #16664I’ve used Tesco online a fair bit, with zero issues (m&s also are great).
It seems your issues come from you wanting someone else to collect it, and there being a parking machine.
Is there no option for home delivery? Though that would probably include a charge. If it didn’t I can’t see why I’d opt to pick up over home delivery, especially given I go my Tesco probably 4 times a week.
It’s strange for me to hear that there is a pay meter in the Tesco car park. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that. Coincidentally I’m writing this sat in a Tesco carpark

February 7, 2018 at 12:30 pm #16665I’ve never come across a Tesco with a Pay Meter either – it is normally limted free parking (at least 90 minutes).
I use Tesco Direct all the time – brilliant collection service in store – far faster than Argos.

February 7, 2018 at 4:34 pm #16672I have not used Tesco Direct that much but it is more than I have used Argos. Tesco goods turned up as ordered, Argos required trips to the shop and a saga. Guess which I prefer.
I side with ANY store that wants some proof of entitlement before handing over goods, in fact I would not wish to use anyone whose ideas revolved round chucking the goods at the first punter through the door. I remember that Tesco did lay down their rules very clearly as the process went through with my orders.
Recent changes to the card rules and the card holder not present frauds might also force greater care.
February 7, 2018 at 6:43 pm #16679Argos is superb near me, fast track orders are ready in seconds. The staff always offer to carry larger items that won’t fit in my rucksack to the car for me, a BIG help. Closest Tesco is shocking at click and collect orders, takes an age to find them in the storeroom. The one about 10 minutes further away (early in the morning) is much more efficient.

February 8, 2018 at 8:08 am #16699My Argos is now better that i can go Sainsburys to collect purchases. I used it before xmas and out of of 10 items 9 was ready to pick up automatically and one i had to wait an hour before pick up. As they had to have it sent from the local Argos.
I’m assuming as it was December they wad doing shuttle runs on the hour to keep up. Probably just one or two shuttle trips now. Ether way my nearest Argos is rhyl, but it had no parking, so id always opt for colwyn bay pick up, before Sainsbury’s started ‘click and collect.

I cant recall but is that because payment isn’t taken until you collect? I can’t remember – it’s been a while since I collected froma Screwfix but I certainly recall putting my card in and my PIN. Maybe I just did a reserve and collect in store?

February 8, 2018 at 8:56 am #16703With Screwfix even if you pay online and collect in store you need to verify the card by inputting your PIN. It’s a minor hassle to make sure you get what you paid for.
February 8, 2018 at 9:32 am #16704Tesco take a picture of your car reg as you go in the car park. For the first year or 2 they didn’t charge. I have heard of people recieving a letter saying you have been parked there longer than a shopper. Now you have to pay or spend over a set amount and get a free pass from the till. This car park is also used for Walsall shoppers. It is cheaper than delivery, I was saying the hasstle (you have to put your car reg in) more than the paying, is it worth it. If I had drove to argos in cannock there is no parking charge.
All our parking in Walsall Town is pay and tesco is in the town. Now built on the old Walsall College, tesco built a new college over the road.
I tred to screen shot from google earth, sadly google only have a model, not actual picture.
Cheers
JohnFebruary 8, 2018 at 10:03 am #16707This article says –
Tesco have introduced the fee in an attempt to combat rogue town centre visitors parking without buying anything.
Previously, people could park at the Tesco Extra in the centre of Walsall for two hours for free
Now, people will have to spend £5 and obtain a voucher which they will then have to validate at a parking machine in order to leave without being fined, although it will not apply to anyone staying for less than half an hour.
The store is one of nine in the country which is getting the new technology.
The “less than half an hour” I would assume, would cover your “Direct click and collect” Collection ?

February 8, 2018 at 10:10 am #16709This other article also states
But, from Tuesday October 18, people will have to spend £5 and obtain a voucher which they will then have to validate at a parking machine in order to leave without being fined, although it will not apply to anyone staying for less than half an hour.

What it doesn’t say is
You still need to mess about putting in your car reg at the ticket machine, if you forget to do this you will be fined as a town user, we’ve got your reg. This can take upto 10 mins or more depending on the amount of users at the machine, while they enter their car reg.
There is one of these by the new (complex) picture house on the town wharf and by Argos (complex) on the town wharf.

JohnFebruary 8, 2018 at 1:28 pm #16714My Tesco is new, about 4 years old.you get your car scanned in and out my camera, iirc its 90mims or maybe 3 hours.
Though directly across the road there is a totally free carpark that was 75% pay and displays 25% free. But last year just dropped all the charges.
However, unless you work in town, i can’t see why anyone would need more than an hour. I can do a full shop for us 7 in 20mins. If you go to 9 am, 3 pm or after 5 pm. Though i don’t brow, i know what i want and I’m in and out. The wife takes longer, but she too hates shopping so doesn’t hang around.
Other than food, everything else we buy gets delivered. We sometimes get shopping delivered, but i always forget something or decide of something i a missing one thing for, so would rather do the shopping for about 3 days at a time. Shopping for 3 days takes just as long as shopping for 7.
Have you seen the new scanners you walk around with, scan as you go, then on check out, they just scan your scanner and randomly pick 2 or 3 items to scan. I’ve not tried it, but the wife love it.
I don’t think it saves as the time it takes to scan every item by a novice, can’t be faster than the cashier doing it. Also if you don’t time your shop, you’ll still have to queue up.
Now if you could just walk straight out and be charged to your account. Then i be more enthusiastic about it. The tech is here and in use elsewhere.
February 8, 2018 at 10:03 pm #16737If we need to do our 3 weekly ‘Big Shop’ we can either go to Morrisons at Laceby (near Cleethorpes) or Tesco Cleethorpes, which is a misnomer as it is actually in Humberstone, nearer to Grimsby. There is little to choose on distance: Humberstone is less in distance, Laceby is a country drive and is much quicker on time, due to less traffic. We prefer Morrisons: what we buy from there is always cheaper in total and they have several items that Tesco do not stock, including Cross & Blackwell beef & chunky vegetable and pea & hamhock soups, which totally outclass any Heinz soups.
Tip here for a tasty soup snack for one: take one of those small Heinz tins of tomato soup, grate some mature cheddar, start heating the soup in a pan until it gets warm, then gradually add the cheese, stirring it in until hot. If you like Pizza or cheese & tomato, you will love it. The soup has to be just hot enough to melt the cheese.
There is no charge at either superstore for parking. I have ordered from Tesco Direct before and usually collected personally, but have had a few items delivered. Screwfix and Argos, we use a lot as a family. The Louth Argos is small, but items can be delivered next day from Grimsby or Lincoln stores. Both Argos and Screwfix have my mobile and I get a text with the item code, then show at the till, either paying for it online or when collecting. Never had a problem at either store, which is more than I can say for some online stores. My daughter is a shoe fanatic: not kidding, she has absolutely dozens of shoes and not a few handbags. This makes me laugh, as her partner gets most of his clothes from charity shops, yet always looks smart. She bullied him last week into ordering a new pair of fancy shoes* and told him to send them to our address, as they are all out at work all day. He forgot that bit and they had a card through the door “Sorry you were not in, etc.” She emailed them and told them to send the parcel here, but it never turned up. Meanwhile another parcel arrived here that DD had ordered herself. (Handbag) so I drove down to their house (I have a key) and delivered that one, to find another card in the door “Sorry you were not in, etc.” Texted DD, who was by now quite angry, (that is an understatement – she is fiery.) and texted a SHOUT at the company. Next day the shoes arrived here, I texted her and she came to collect the parcel, unpacked it. They were the wrong colour and wrong size. I took several steps back and made her a cuppa.
Online stores. Good, in parts.

Yes, but it means you can’t get anyone else to collect the order for you – unless you trust them with the PIN.
I thought these parking charges weren’t enforceable because it’s a civil matter.
