Forumite Points: 0I don’t know if anyone is still local to Coventry, but I’ve found out that Eclipse Computers have gone into administration. The website is dead and apparently the shutters are down at the shop.
I hadn’t been in about a year but it looked like they were doing well then, with a load of modern kit on show. It’s a shame as I was going to go there for my new Ryzen build.
January 30, 2018 at 1:27 am #16411That brings back a few memories.
I used to leave Oxford at 8am, get my bits from Eclipse & be back home for lunch. Build the PC & have Windows installed by about 4pm. Happy days. 🙂

January 30, 2018 at 4:15 pm #16430I haven’t been in for years. Maybe 6.
I even forgot about them. 🙂
Oh, btw good luck with the rizen build. But note the new stepper will be along soon. Erm, that will be the zen+ rizen?
🙂

Forumite Points: 0Yes, that’s why I’m waiting for March/April, so that I can get the X470 and a Zen+ processor.
Hopefully by then GPU and memory prices will have dropped a bit!
January 30, 2018 at 8:46 pm #16439Yeah, prices are a little crazy on those items at the mo.
No Doubt the new rizen will support faster ram if you can afford it. I’m on 16Gb at the mo.
Its becoming more important to have 8Gb of frame buffer support for your GPU. X2 games that max out 8GB at 1080p ultra setting are RE7 and ROTTRaider Dx12.
Erm, Playing Farcry primal at the mo. A little slow to start but brill game its defo got its claws into me. Oh that sucks about 5.5GB GDDR. 🙂
February 4, 2018 at 10:48 am #16561Didn’t expect that. I’ve been in a couple of times in the last few years and it has always seemed busy. I’ve also bought a couple of things off their online store.

February 4, 2018 at 12:23 pm #16568Got my new Ryzen & from Chillblast yesterday. I’m really pleased with it. It is whisper quiet and runs VMs with no issues. The Ryzen 7 has 8 cores and one alone happily runs a Ubuntu VM. The Asus Prime B350M-A is a mini-ATX form factor that results in the box being half the size and probably saves £100/year in leccy compared with the noisy old Intel 7 monster. Not a pay-out but definitely a positive contribution.
About my only tiny niggle is that the on-bard sound does not put out 7.1 sound, so I had to lash out £20 on a usb sound board.

Forumite Points: 0I noticed some time ago. It’s a shame I always bought large purchases from them
paying cash so the missus had no idea how expensive the parts were.
Last purchase from them was my R9 390x gaming. £345. She’d flip if she knew.
