My Sky HD remote has been getting tatty for a while and my small pile of remotes is annoying. So I finally got around to buying a universal remote to do the TV and Sky boxes and control the Amazon TV and it’s Kodi from an android app.

I got the £11 One for All Essence 2 URC 7120 for 2 devices (they do single, triple and quad versions too). If you go to the website  you can search for the setup codes for your devices rather than go through the printed tables in the manual. I was very vague on model numbers so it gave me multiple codes to try but the top ones worked first time.

One clever aspect is the “combi” button. When watching Sky all I need the TV to do is turn on and off and adjust the volume, so these keys are dedicated to the TV and the rest control the Sky box. The power switch works on both boxes simultaneously. If you need to do anything more complex you just put the remote in dedicated TV or SAT mode.
