This thread for forumite changes

Yes it’s Christmas morning but there is jack all on telly so thought I would do that big php upgrade. The results are amazing and I am sure you will notice the difrence in the speed of the site. The cpu before the upgrade was running at 80% and now its between 5% to 25% :yahoo:

I have not fully checked out the sites features to see if there working or not so I’ll just wait and see what crops up.

• Added user tag or what ever you choose to call it under the members details in the forum. For example – Under a members profile picture/avatar on the left you will see @admin or @rsb etc… This can be used to grab a particular person or persons attention or link to there profile. I often use this and the feature is here to stay. If someone inserts your tag into a post you will be notified by email or in the notifacation area of your profile.

Well I thought I had better explain were my thoughts sit with keeping MM forum or content. As Jason as mentioned it is about 1k to keep it alive however I believe it is more than that after looking into it. To do that someone will have to take responsibility for that bill every month and that cannot be me because I am already paying out for forumite. Some have mentioned they will pay each month towards costs but if over time people leave for whatever reason than the onus is on who ever  that bill each month’s name it is in and so I rather that not be me.

What I can do is transfer the data over to forumite. I have looked into this in detail and this is not going to be without its costs. I will need access to the MM database and FTP access details.

Because there is no tools out there to directly import from MM to my forumite software I will have to first import it into forum software that has tools available then import it into forumite forum. It is not going to be an overnight job and I would have to do it over time, maybe a month as I will have to get back to doing some proper work and just spend a few hours a day on forumite.

If I was to transfer the data from mm to forumite I could do with MM stopping open for another month or at a minimum all the files and database sending to me.

There is no point me struggling and guessing though and rather than hearsay and third parties it would be useful if I am contacted directly by whoever pulls the strings.

For now I’ll keep working on forumite and I thank all those who have donated to the cause so far and have made an effort in contributing to the forum content.

• I will be doing some server updates this aft between 1pm and 2pm. If your in the middle of a writing a post when I restart you may loose it. But you can take your chances anyhow :yahoo:

I will be, tonight putting SSL in place plus a few other changes including the hosting page. The SSL at first may give warnings to users and especially to those on older software. I have been putting it off as long as possible but now Google are “Telling Me” recommending I do it due to the fact there are registrations forms on the site. So do expect some disruption, this is the only convenient time for me at the moment.
