I have a device called Universal Power Box
External Mobile Battery For Digital Products.
I can’t find any info on this model, it is said these charge mobile phones tablets etc. It has a USB port andI have plugged my mobile in. It seems to be charging my mobile?
It’s also said you charge it up at home then use it to charge your mobile on the beach etc.
I can’t see how you charge it at home there is only one cable with it and that has USB (for the charger going to micro USB for the mobile.

Cheers
JohnDecember 25, 2017 at 10:55 pm #14699If you read the Chinglish “Product Features” it’s basically saying that it’s a clever battery.
You should be able to quickly charge it from the mains. It then becomes a battery that can be used to charge a mobile or another device when you’re out camping in the wilds or wherever.
It looks from your photo that there is a mains lead – the one on the left, plus a couple of USB ports, one standard and one micro. The battery “output” should be the two on the right.
These are all suppositions from the photo, but that’s the principal.
December 26, 2017 at 7:35 am #14704Just a caution, without knowing more about the battery just charge, disconnect then use. Some batteries allow the phone or whatever to remain connected, many more do not have the ability to charge while connected to a phone.
December 26, 2017 at 7:52 am #14705Thanks JayCee and Ed,
You saying the one on the left made me look at the ports In detail (with my glasses on)
The one on the left says Out as does the one on the right. There is a micro socket in the middle that says In. I plugged my mobile phone (wall) charger in and the lights are flashing,I assume it is now charching.
So the cable that came with it must be reversable as such, to be used one side (out)for charging apps and the other side (in) for charging itself.
I did try to figure it out yesterday, with your help I figured it out today.
I’m a bit hectic as my partner had a breast cancer op last Friday.

JohnDecember 26, 2017 at 10:23 am #14706It’s a normal cable John, you can use any you may already have.
December 26, 2017 at 2:35 pm #14710The centre micro usb is almost certainly the power input for charging the bank, and the two USB 2 ports are for charging phones etc off the battery bank.

Nice one i’ll now get to grips with it

JohnDecember 26, 2017 at 8:01 pm #14716Keep an eye on the heat while charging your phone with it. I have had a couple of battery packs that would put hell to shame and I am sure they would of caught fire if left to there own devices.

December 27, 2017 at 8:19 am #14728Thanks Lee
I have used it to charge my phone (from 88% to 100%) just to try it. Not sos sure from 00% I can’t afford to over heat my phone, I think I’ll stick to the wall charger.
Cheers
JohnDecember 27, 2017 at 9:27 am #14729The phone should have intelligent charge rate and over-charge protection and will be OK.
I think Lee was referring to the battery pack itself. The very cheap packs can be a bit of a menace. Just put your hand on the pack – warm is fine but painfully hot is not! Over-heating CAN take place both on charging and discharging.
The other caution is NOT to leave the power bank on charge when not in use. Charge it up and only recharge it when needed and you are around
December 27, 2017 at 4:16 pm #14770As ed says your phone will be fine. The power brick if not branded, id keep an eye on it.
I have many cheapish battery banks, none have had issues. Not to say they don’t exist, but you only hear of the bad ones, not the millions of good ones that quietly go about their business.

I “get the picture” now.

JohnDecember 28, 2017 at 12:29 pm #14843Hi John ?
Your phone dont really care where it is charged from. As long as the voltage is correct it will just take the current it needs.
Some litium ion batteries have been made with the potentiol for an internal short but if yours hasn’t caught fire yet i wouldnt worry.
The thing to remember is always charge devices on flat hard serface NOT covered with a pillow !
December 28, 2017 at 7:22 pm #14860Thanks Graham
I always charge on the desk
Cheers
