I Logged out and almost forgot about this.
My (second) SIL has a couple of laptops he wants to wipe. Now I can do this by looking up whatever it takes, but I would rather he does it himself. The clue is in the (second) bit.
My daughter is a lovely, good-naturedlass who can flare up at a moments notice into Cruella de Ville. That is down to her first husband, who was a real PoS and caused her all sorts of problems. He was a blonde, hansome idiot with the IQ of a Lab mouse and is long gone, but it’s made her cautious and liable to expose the temper she has always had (don’t I know it) very quickly when a ‘discussion‘ breaks out. Now, I like my SIL, he is a good bloke and we get on very well: in fact he told me once, better than with his own parents. I really do not wish to be tempted into opening his lappy up and viewing the contents. First Numpty SIL gave me an old computer of his to play with: a measure of his Numptiness Quotient, is that he left upon it a record of love letters to his secretary. Without thinking it through, I showed these to SWMBO. You can guess who she showed them to. All Hell broke loose and I was the circulating object upon which most of the Brown Stuff impacted. The Messenger was almost shot.??
It took over a year and a divorce (dear daughter’s) before dd and I were OK again. So I do not want to go delving into his machines. I really don’t think he is Playing Away, because the guy is a Work Monster, 12 hour day & night shifts, and he obviously loves her, their daughter and the stepson he inherited. But I don’t want to be xposed to possibilities, so could some kind soul tell me which programme to direct him towards? He is not a guy who does any more with a computer than use it.
Thanks guys!

I'm out.December 20, 2017 at 4:00 pm #14545If it’s Windows 10 just reset it choosing the option to wipe everything.
December 20, 2017 at 4:06 pm #14546Just a quick note “It may be excessive in this case” but for future reference if there is a need to really go to town on an HDD then run a live distro such as mint, install and run NWIPE and you will get some serious wiping tools.
