I have had 3 people recently asking me why they get an open Windows Defender Security Centre window (as below) popping up every boot since the latest Fall Creators Update.

I don’t get it myself – does anyone know how you can get it to stop appearing ? Obviously you can manually close it, but it is an irritant.

Looking at that Boris, if it is doing a Proper Job, it represents an attraction to 10 for me, which has not happened before.

Question is, is it any good? Does it do a Proper Job, will it save me buying another IS/AV programme? As you say, it is easily closed.

If it still irritates try following the procedures to turn off notifications.

Afraid I cannot test Windows Defender as I use Kaspersky.

Defender works fine. I’ve used it it solely on all my machines for about 8 years.

I don’t get that pop up or haven’t noticed. But I never turn my machines of. I just let them fall asleep.

I also use Kaspersky or BitDefender so can’t test this.

But I am informed by Ray, who is testing this for me that even turning off all notifications doesn’t stop it appearing  ?

              Any more ideas ?

It does not do that on my system, are you setting it to load, or to run in the background?

On my system it sits as a hidden icon unless I open it when it goes all stupid and asks me to enlist all the other devices I don’t have….

He hasn’t set it to do anything, it has been this way since the Fall Creator’s Update arrived.

Fall Creator’s update alters some of the ‘personal’ settings that have been made. It ‘sort-off’ warns you about changes but the warning is easily missed or skipped over. Where the update makes changes it will apply new defaults unless these have otherwise been deselected. I suspect that this is what happened to your friend. Maybe he needs to check through the Defender options panels.

Success  ?…… I eventually worked out how to turn it off for them.

                        Ctrl + Alt + Delete,

                        Task Manager.

                        Start-up.

Click the Windows Defender User Interface icon and set it to Disabled

This only shows if you use Windows Defender rather than an alternative A/V product.
