A friend for whom I built an AMD system in 2012 has just told me that it has died and wants a new system.

He has the following:  case, 2 x DVD RWs SATA, PSU (though it might need replacing by now), W7 Home Premium, 1TB WD Black HDD (as per PSU comment).

He needs mobo, RAM and CPU minimum, your views please on:

Intel Core i3-7100 3.90GHz Socket 1151 3MB Retail Boxed Processor  Ebuyer No. 766083 at £107

      Gigabyte B250M-DS3H mobo  Ebuyer 769291  at £61

      2 x CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR4 2400 (PC4-19200) C14 Desktop Memory for Intel 100/200 Series  Ebuyer 811304 at £48/ea

Any suggestions for a better system please – I’m now well and truly out of touch with  the current stuff.

      Thanks,  Dave

Looks OK to me Dave, those I3’s absolutely fly along.

However you can get a very similar bundle from Amazon @ £239 link Kaby Lake Core i3 7100 3.9Ghz CPU, ASUS Prime B250M-A Motherboard & 8GB 2133Mhz Crucial DDR4

Lately I’ve taken to using the £35 Aerocool Integrator 500W PSU link and WD Blue SSDs (I’ve used their HDD for years). I will not build a PC now without an SSD and 250GB is usually more than enough. If they need tons of archive storage or it’s for CCTV recording I’ll add a spinner.

          Many thanks, Dave.

He should be here later today so we’ll have a chat and chew the cud on prices etc.
