Pringles currently have codes for Now TV passes on the outside (yes, that’s right, the outside ?) of their tins. You don’t even need to look at the tins though, as this thread on HUKD shows. ?
November 6, 2017 at 2:14 pm #13319Cool, will have to empty my local shop later.
November 6, 2017 at 3:46 pm #13321I don’t suppose the blag will last all that long but make hay while the sun shines. Even at full price the £6.99 pass is decent value if you time it right – this weekend for example you could have done it Saturday night and had the boxing, the Sunday EPL football and the Spanish football, plus anything else in between.
For some unknown reason I’m not particularly bothered about watching football at the moment (!) – but I do wish BT did something similar, they would have my business for the Ashes, or they might anyway if I don’t have to sign up for a year.
November 6, 2017 at 3:53 pm #13322I would like to see more football on Eurosport as there not bad for a years subscription @ £25 approx.
Last year I used it for snooker and some women’s football, the latter being more background noise.
I have entertainment and movies with now on my phone and 3 boxes scattered round the house but I do sometimes treat my self to a sports pass. But tbh I prefer to listen to the football on the radio.

November 6, 2017 at 4:01 pm #13323Well I’m on BT business broadband (through work) and it looks like I can get the Windows/Android version of BT Sport for free….got to wait for activation but happy days if so….especially if the Android version works on FireTV.
November 6, 2017 at 7:27 pm #13330We pay for BT sports monthly by months, via EE.
May be worth grabbing an ee pay n go sim, just to a get the free 6 months BT sports access.
November 7, 2017 at 5:05 am #13339Duke having checked it looks like I am eligible for the BT sports app free (on Windows or Android, not on STB). I’ve applied ad they say up to 7 days activation – hopefully sooner. The App will do for me as I still have an NUC hooked up to my man telly (I’ve tried and the FireTV is a no-go). It gives you BoxNation too which I’m likely to watch more than the rest – soo good news.
If it turns out to be a non-runner (i.e. I’ve read it wrong) then I’ll look at that SIM – cheers!
November 7, 2017 at 11:45 am #13341We signed up via EE, and I think it’s supposed to only work on mobile, but I mostly watch via the windows metro app.
Also once the free 6 months runs out, I think it’s only 5 or 6£ ish, give it had all the euro football, it’s worth it for me.
The metro app is decent, just a normal tv app, but on android (and probably ios) it is fantastic, in the play bar it highlights all the action points that have happened in a game, and you can easily jump back to view, AND you can control the camera angles, a bit like watching hung a goal re play on fifa footy games. As it keeps real time states of the game. Once you use it, you will all other sports experiences lacking in comparison.
I will often have my seconed phone (usually my 6p) to watch the non vital football games, off to one side. Some refuse to watch sport or media on a phone, I think it’s probably the best way to watch most things now. You have total emersion, and a 6″ 1080p or 2k phone from 12″ is like a 70″ 8k tv from 10′.
I know I rarely choose to pit the t but on to watch something. My tv I use for background noise, ie I put twit tv on in the background. That’s about all I use one for these days.
November 7, 2017 at 4:10 pm #13343I mentioned earlier that Eurosport do a years package for X amount. Well today only “There will be others though” £14.99 for a year with code 1DWB50UK07

November 7, 2017 at 4:17 pm #13344I watch a lot of telly on the phone (Gym, train etc) – and agree it is a very decent experience. TV s a shole is so different now, and one reason I think Sky Q is less and less attractive is that – who needs to tape 6 things at once when you can get the all off catch up when it suits?
Aside from live sport, most of what I watch is stuff that has been recommended to me, nearly always on freeview, and easy enough to find after the fact.
I think the delivery platform is less and less relevant – Sky’s mistake – as the content is dispersed all over the place. NowTV is an example of something they do well – selling their own content through multiple platforms – Sky Q is an example of something they do badly – a bespoke platform still assuming that people will have Sky as the hub of their entertainment solution, even though they are now one of many shows in town.
Back to the topic, they should run the beer promos alongside the crisp ones – marriage made in heaven.
November 7, 2017 at 6:50 pm #13345I can remember in about 2005/7ish, rumours of the up and coming sky home server, that stores all your recordings in one place, and serves them up to thin client style boxes.
At the time I was at “peek sky” with 5 sky plus boxes in the house, and then I was like “where do I send the money”. 10 years on I’ve been sky free for about 4 years.
It was only today I found out you could record 6+1 with Q, (radio advert) I just laughed, 1. At no point iny life, have I ever needed access to 7 channels. Maybe two of three times in my whole time with sky + I’d want to tape 2 and watch a 3rd, and wished for an extra ‘slot’ but 7!!
And 2, as you said, OD services make the need/want for a pvr all but dead. It may not be dead yet, but it’s on life support.
Lee, what does euro sport have on. It’s a channel we had forever, but one I’ve only watched when abroad on hotel tvs. It’d probably been 5 years since I sampled euro sport.
November 7, 2017 at 7:44 pm #13346No argument from me that Sky is becoming irrelevant. I recorded my quitting of the Q-Box here a while ago: If I want to see GoT 8 when it hits the screen next, I have a NowTV box which I have to setup soon. I am going to run it alongside the Freesat box * via a network switch. The corner of the room where the cables reside, is going to house even more cables and connections soon! I am enjoying the Freesat service, with Sky we found that we were mostly watching programmes from Freeview and Freesat anyway. Thanks for the eurosport tips guys, going to look into that. I am a bit strapped for time to do stuff atm, as SWMBO is having several appointments before going in for her new hip on the 21st. My poor old Gert is suffering quite badly now and walking is a trial for her. I shall be chief cook, carer and cleaner after she comes out of the NHS workshop. In addition, we are having landscaping done at the rear of the bungalow, to make the back garden low maintenance. Things are a bit hectic here atm, daughter is also moving into her old house, which is now a new one after a rebuild taking almost 15 months.
*A few niggles with the Humax box: HD programmes have very loud volume compared to non-HD and that has to be controlled with a mix of Samsung soundbar remote and Humax remote. Procedure for switching off has to be – first switch off Humax box with Humax remote, wait for Humax box light to go completely red (Standby). Then switch off Sony TV with TV remote. Switching on again: turn on Humax box with Humax remote and wait for bootup. (it goes from red to purple, to blue) Freesat service boots up on TV after about a minute, TV remote not needed until switching off for the night. NEVER turn off the Humax box, leave on Standby.
Failure to follow this routine leads to having to setup the service all over again, I found.
Sony Bravia 40″ (unsmart) TV, Samsung simple soundbar, Humax HD-R 1100S Freesat box. TV connected to soundbar by optical toslink, and to the Humax by HDMI lead. TV also has an ethernet connection and another HDMI socket, which will take the NowTV box eventually.

I'm out.November 8, 2017 at 5:31 am #13349That doesn’t sound right at all Bob – HDMI-CEC settings can do wierd things if you have that function enabled, maybe worth a nose in to the settings on TV and the FreeSat box. If not though there must be something wrong 0 it can’t be meant to be that much of a chore to turn on/off. If you are within the return window I’d be looking at replacing it.
November 8, 2017 at 10:17 pm #13355Thanks BL. Sorry for the tardy response, been out in the (cold) sunshine all day with No.2 gson, who is helping us get the rear garden cleared ready for landscaping. He’s back tomorrow for more, doing the heavy lifting (big old slabs)
I don’t understand the HDMI-CEC references, but will Google it and should find out. Very tired atm, soon off to bed. Thanks for the advice.

I'm out.November 9, 2017 at 5:32 am #13356I hope you had a good snooze!
HDMI-CEC is a feature that allows you to control other (compatible) devices with your TV remote. This can be handy if for example you are running a kodi build on a Raspberry Pi – as you boot straight in o kodi and use the TV remote to navigate around on the Pi.
It can also be useful in other circumstances (maybe basic control of a DVD or Blu-Ray with your TV remote), but it can also be a right pain in the @rse……not sure if it would cover your symptoms, but I’ve had cases of the feature (HDMI-CEC) causing devices to switch other devices on or off when you don’t want that to happen.
If the feature is implemented on your TV and soundbar it would be worth disabling it everywhere and then see how things go. IF all is well and you don’t miss anything leave it off, if not then you can adjust the feature one setting at a time (and at least you have an “everything works” reference point).
If none of that makes any difference I think something is wrong, either in set up or something is faulty as I can’t believe you should have all this grief. My Mum has a Toshiba soundbar with a Samsung TV and Sky HD box and it all plays together very nicely.
Good luck any road!
November 9, 2017 at 6:15 pm #13359Thanks BL, had a great sleep actually, best for ages, totally zonked out. Grandson got some more gardening done but I had to break off when I received news that his sister had been taken home from the restaurant ill: shaking, dizzy and falling over. Took her to the local hospital and (after a 3 hour wait) they found nothing wrong, advised her to see GP tomorrow. So she is in our lounge atm waiting for dad to come hme from work.
Just 20 minutes ago, had an online conversation with Humax about the issues. It was one onscreen setting on the box – change Audio to “Stereo” from “Multi channel”. Did that, problem solved. Last night I Googled HDMI-CEC after your earlier post and also set that. (It was off) SWMBO was beginning to blame her new hearing aids, saying the sound was harsh, whilst I could not hear it like that.
It seems to be OK now anyway. If it stays that way I will be able to setup the NowTV box and move the HiFi speakers to the shelf besides the TV. Then I can tidy up all the rats nest of cables. If no one else is going to need granddad’s taxi/ambulance/shopping trolley/parcel transporter. (Have done some of that this week, or doing it tomorrow.)
