We went to the Chinese Dinosaur exhibition at Wollaton Hall in Sheffield. If you have kids, take them. It is awesome with some huge dinosaur skeletons on display, and includes the feathered dinosaurs that eventually evolved into birds. The exhibition finishes at the end of October. You can pre-book tickets but we just paid at the gate. (£8 iirc for adults)

Parking in the park is good, or you can use the many buses that run from the city centre (about a quarter of a mile walk from the hall to the bus-stop.)

Ed, think you’ll find that’s in Nottingham. ?

Mea Culpa – not sure why I wrote Sheffield! It is of course Nottingham, But the forum does not let me correct it now.

As a Nottingham-born lad, I would have taken exception to anyone else saying that, Ed! Wollaton has always been a renowned visitor attraction in the area, nice to know its appeal has widened.

Many Nottinghamshire schools (mine included) used to take pupils on History trips there, when I was a nipper. I had no idea that it now puts on such great exhibitions nowadays. I am tempted to take my history-fanatic* 12yo gdaughter there. Thanks for the tip, Ed, you are forgiven even if it was the wrong county in so many ways!

*Seriously: she absolutely loves history, we spend hours along local beaches, picking up Flint knappings and tools, dragged up from the beach renourishment work along our coast. More hours in local ancient Houses, of which there are many. And she has loved dinosaurs since she was tiny.

When the Thought Police arrive at your door, think -
            I'm out.
