I have just given myself a dilemma. Having bought a Lenovo Tab 3-8 some months ago, I rediscovered my Hudl2 whilst looking for something else, which was actually lying on the Hudl box. I had rebuilt the Hudl, which I christened Hudlestein, with a Mobo from a broken Hudl that a neighbour asked me to take to the WEE dump. I fitted a new charging port and a new genuine battery*, as opposed to a Chibatt: cheap garbage, lasted a few days. Fitted the gen. battery, gave it a factory reset, charged it to full and promptly forgot about it.

The Tab3 is quite young, and the Hudl was about a year older than that when put away. I rebooted the Hudl this morning and went through the “Getting Started” routine, checked the Battery: 97% after 9 months or so in the box. Set up and checked the Wireless signal, ‘Excellent’ signal at 72Mbps, which is what my phone also gets in this room, 2 doors and 3 walls from the Sky Hub. Which is why I am undecided: the Tab3 is a poor WiFi device, in the same room it never gets above 65Mbps, usuall less, and often disconnects. The Hudl also has a better screen and is more responsive, although parts are very difficult to obtain now. I am leaning towards selling the Tab3 and keeping the Hudl: what does the Team think? I have a spare used Mobo and a battery, which may or may not be good. I am now an experienced amateur Hudl2 tech!??

*I managed to get a brand new battery about a year ago, from the same neighbour, who had ordered it and dropped the Hudl (without a case) and promptly bought an iPad. This is one of those people who loses their cool every time something breaks or does not work. Fortunately he moved to Skeggy shortly afterwards, thus proving that he has no taste, as well as a short temper.

        I’d stick with the Hudl.

If things get really bad I have one here that I might be persuaded to let go. Maybe. Perhaps. Possibly. ?

Yes Nolan I was leaning towards the Hudl, until over lunch, SWMBO got wind of the situation and thought it might make a better home for her e-books. Her Kindle is the original, with a much smaller screen and the ‘touch’ keyboard. So I will probably be stuck with the Tab3. If she ever makes up her mind which device she wants, that is. I have setup Kindle for PC and more e-books on the laptop, doesn’t use it. I would not give her the Tab3, the wireless would drive her mad. And me, by extension.

EDIT: Many thanks for the offer, I would not ask unless you definitely want to sell it, a working Hudl is a great standby. However, if you do decide to sell, let me know and I would buy it from you. I like playing with them and have quite a few bits lying around now. The Hudl was a great idea, hardware needed to be more reliable IMO. Charging ports are notoriously unreliable, for one, plenty still available. Batteries now only available as Chi-copies, had 2 of them, absolutely u/s.

If I do decide to let it go I’ll let you know Bob.

              Thanks Nolan.

I have printed out a comparison of the 2 tablets. Side by side, the Hudl is the better prospect regarding screen, resolution, SD storage (128GB vs. 64) and Wireless, but the question has always been reliability. Tab3 has a better O/S (6.0.1) than the Hudl (5.1). Cameras are almost equal. Going to setup the Hudl for SWMBO as a test: if she doesn’t like it, I will have it back!

Matrimonial give and take. Equality, my a**e!
