      Afternoon

Firstly to the mods please keep a vigilant eye out for spammers this week as I will not have time to catch them before you do. I usually get shut of a few a week before they are noticed but I have been out of action for the past week but luckily it appears none have turned up. I will have to choose an extra Admin with my privileges which can delete rogue users as I know I have at least an other crap 3 weeks ahead and do not know what time and effort I can put into this place. Ideally I would like to go to the middle of no where and chill for a couple of weeks but that will not happen.

Things started going wrong last Wednesday, I had, had a shit day as it was but then at about 6pm I got a call from my mother. My dad had been air ambulanced to hospital after having an heart attack at the wheel of his van and crashing it in Ilkley. Luckily someone in a nearby café  from what I can make out give my dad CPR and this reduced the future damage, it could of be much worse if it was not for that person but now my dad is making a full recovery if a little forgetful. It was unexpected at the age of 53 so every body was a little shocked. They put something in there called a stence or something like that, basicly widen his tubes.

So to top that off they put him in hospital 20 mile away so traveling is a pain in the back side but moving onto my next problem I have not been able to visit  two days.

I don’t know if it was the stress or not but I started to get just a niggling toothach the same night the above happened. I thought nowt of it, a few pain killers etc and all was good. Just put it of untill everything else sorts it’s self. Any how next day one side of my face feels a little tense but again I have a few other stuff on my mind so just leave it. Any how a day after that and one side of my face is like a ballon I kid you not and I am climbing the f’ing walls in agony. I ring the NHS helpline and they said I need an emergency dental appointment and they will call me back and so they did. They made me an appointment for 9.30 Wednesday.

So now I am in bloody agony chucking pain killers down like sweets and in turn making my self feel even worse.

Amongst other little problems it been a hell of a week. I will however after focus on my work over the next couple of weeks as I suspect things will be getting expensive over the weeks hence leaving me little time for this place and to be honest my head is a complete mess so one task at a time.

Bloody hell Lee hope your dad is OK. Not great now, but it could of been much worse..

Hope your face is ok too, I’m currently waiting for a hospital appointment to have my 4 wisdom teeth out. Only been suffering with them for 9 years!

With regards to spam I’ve only ever seen one or two since we have been live. I’ll keep a closer eye out from now on.

Hope the pair of you are OK, take some time away if you need it. We will do are best to not let the place burn down.

        ?

Get some ibrufen, for me they work better than painkillers, and we have so good ones, but they never touch tooth ache.

Lee, take it easy and concentrate on the important things in life. Best of luck for Dad……… and yourself too, come to that.

I’ve just recently heard about the sister-in-law’s partner – heart attack @ 42 and dead before the ambulance arrived, at least Dad made it and survived the crash. It’s thing like this, that keep life in perspective.

Regarding an extra pair of eyes, I’m always around, permanently logged in, so if that’s what’s needed, count me in. Let me know.

It tastes like sh*t, but a Hydrogen Peroxide mouthwash is great if it’s an infection and you’re not yet on anti-biotics.

Can only echo what’s been said already, look after you and yours.

            This place will be fine.

            Hope things get better soon.

I had a stent put in 5 years ago following a heart attack. It’s a tiny tube made of lattice work so it can be inflated by a tiny balloon once it’s in the right place (they use a wire to go through your arteries from wrist or groin). It becomes part of you as the artery walls grow around it.

The good thing is that like me he is one of the 49% that made it (I was the same age BTW) and the doctors will keep an eye on him from now on. The medication keeps my blood pressure absolutely perfect and the statins get rid of the cholesterol. I take an aspirin a day to keep the blood thin so every cut bleeds like a stuck pig and the water tablets mean you can piss for England, but that’s a minor whinge.

Plenty of exercise and a decent diet, it’s all common sense stuff. I still drink but smoking stopped that day. That reduces the chance of another one by 50% and is the biggest concern the docs will have. Giving up with help from the doc was easy, especially when you have that motivation.

So he’ll be OK and so will you within 30 minutes of sitting in the dentists chair and they get the pressure of the abscess off. In the meantime I know there is little worse than toothache, just do what you need to do and don’t worry about this place it’ll still be here.

                Hi Lee,

Sorry to hear about all the problems heaped on you this last week, there is an old saying that ‘things come in 3s’ – hope your dad is better soon, your toothache eases off and any other problems wait their turn.

All the best, hope your dad is on or will soon be the mend.

                  Thanks Foumites.

About 2 minutes after posting the above “I wont go to much into detail” something give in above my gum and lot’s of unpleasant stuff came out and well that’s enough of that. I just kept prodding and poking until it happened and now all the pressure and swelling is going. It’s relief! Disgusting Though. I can feel my body trying to fight off an infection as I am very warm.

My Dad stopped smoking about 15 years ago and stopped the beer a couple of month’s back so now all he needs to do is healthy eating and less complaining at other drivers to keep his pressure down. As @Ricedg will know he was very lucky. And the hospital did exactly as Dave said, through the groin.

All the best to you and family Lee, hope dad is OK and your teeth now less of a problem.

I had a similar problem to yours last year: face 3x normal size on left, excruciating pain. Dentist saw me and said the abscess was too big, gave me pain killers and antibiotics, which was a problem as I have allergies to Penicillin and had to wait for some others. Got bloody mad with it, sterilised a needle and stabbed the thing.* Instant biological volcano, as you say too much detail is irrelevant, but a week of antibiotics killed it off. Like banging your head against a wall, so good when it stops!

Dentist appeared disappointed that I would not let him pull the tooth, but about 13 months later it’s still here, had 2 more checkups since.

And yes, this Oldphart still has most of his own choppers!

Forget this place for a bit Lee, your family and health are more important. We will keep an eye out for spam. Good luck & good health to you & yours.

Cheers @tippon. Everything is more or less back to normal. My dad is back home and has to rest for a month. 6 day turn around does not seem bad at all to me hospital time wise.

Also in the first post I said I was due at the dentist on the 2nd “Wednesday” so I turned up on Wednesday an the staff kindly pointed out that the 2nd is Saturday 🙂 Luckily they had spare time to fill that morning as I was there at 8.30 and they let me in. I was there no more than 15 mins, they pulled a tooth and showed me the door.

My head is still a little fuzzy but things are falling back into place and I am slowly ticking off things on my to do list.

+1 to all the good wishes. Keep a watchful eye on your Dad’s attitude to life during the next six moths – apparently depression is the biggest danger after a cardiac incident – first signs of mortality and all that. Hopefully they still run post-cardiac courses/exercise courses e.g. link If so, encourage him to participate, they are a valuable resource.

I have to say I never suffered from depression, more the opposite. I’ve cheated the reaper twice now both ending with life changing injuries, so I know that dying is the easy bit (terrible cliche but true). Probably helps that I was only 22 the first time!

They do run the exercise classes, although given my disability they weren’t appropriate for me.  At the time I had raging arthritis in the ankle as well, in fact my total ankle replacement operation (TAR) had to be delayed by a year. I’m happy to say that in the end the heart attack made no difference to my recovery from that.  The TAR has been a fantastic success and has enabled me to start walking distances again which has helped with the heart recovery.

Indeed our holiday of choice now is wandering around northern European cities, something I couldn’t do before the heart attack due to the arthritis. Off to Amsterdam again in 6 weeks time for 6 days and we’ll spend a day travelling as well. Rotterdam or may be Utrecht or Haarlem.

One of the first people I met when we moved into this Senior Citizen’s Ghetto, was a very big, very jolly old Scot who had just recovered from a quadruple bypass at 78. He also had just one working lung and an enormous belly which he swore he was looking after for a mate! He had just lost his wife a couple of years before we arrived. A more un-depressed individual I never met: Jim was always laughing, especially at himself. When digital TV arrived, I helped him buy and set up a TV and got the aerial guy in the village to fit an aerial, then got him a used DVD/VCR combo and rerecorded his VCR’s to DVD. Eventually Jim had to go into a local Care Home in town and he was a bit depressed by this, until I pointed out that his bookies and favourite pub were now only a short walk away, which cheered him up no end! I used to visit him regularly and often saw him in town, puffing away on his one lung, wearing his old 3-piece suit, fresh food stains always down the tie. He was 88 when he lost the last battle: Jim was such a huge bloke that I swear the pall bearers were buckling at the knees before they got him safely into the Crem. A real character, still missed in the Close by us older Ghetto inmates.

Dave, I didn’t have your ticker trouble, my fear before my spinal op was that I would be unable to walk. I now walk as much as possible, because I also share your belief in keeping the engine going. It takes me a long time to get anywhere, but I still have some of my old stamina from running days, I just keep going. I have to do much of it alone now, as SWMBO’s hip has just about packed up for good. There are apparently 4,000 people in Lincolnshire waiting for new hips.
