The Brit who saved US (and UK) corporations millions of dollars by killing the Wannacry ransomware has been arrested by the FBI! link. Makes you wonder whether the US is blameless for Wannacry when they act like this.

Update – the Beeb reports that he was arrested for an alleged role in the Kronos banking Trojan.

          No good deed goes unpunished…

When the Thought Police arrive at your door, think -
          I'm out.

Details and the indictment are here. Nothing in either give grounds for saying anything other than the offences are ‘alleged’.

Unfortunately all who attend the Black Hat convention (Def Con) are guilty by association, irrespective of the actual colour of their hats, so he faces an up-hill battle.

More twists and turns are revealed in this ElReg link. One VERY interesting fact is that despite allegedly developing Khronos, he actually asked for a sample of the malware! Case dismissed imho. A far more likely scenario is that he has been framed by a vengeance seeking Wannacry perpetrator.

I don’t think they care what they arrest him for, it just gives them permission to go through all his stuff, take copies and collect data on everyone he knows at the black hat convention.

In fact, it probably better if he is innocent because he is more likely to cooperate and give them his passwords that way.

                  Or am I just cynical?
