Daughter is thinking of this and asked my advice !! (me with a 4 year old PAYG Huawei Ascend Y300 !!! ) ?

Android 7 for £95 quid seems pretty good to me – but I am a devout cheapskate !

Anyone have any sensible thoughts ?

If all that’s needed is a basic smartphone then it’s fine.

If there’s going to be any attempt to play demanding games or take fantastic photos look elsewhere, it’s no rocket ship by any stretch of the imagination.

It’s a perfect phone for a youngster, an older person who just wants some basic apps or an ‘out on the town’ back up.

I’ve not had any experiance with this device,  but the pervious 2015 Moto E 4G, Was my go to phone for recommendations, to light/new or older folk,  It was a fine phone for £75.( It started life at £125, but quickly dropped to £75)

I can’t see why this wouldn’t be the same.

Thanks, I’ll pass that info on to her – I’m even tempted myself ?

Same here Dave, except the wife, but she did have one, and liked it.

The only really issue with the old one was the 8gb internal space. Even offloading to sd only worked somewhat as some apps wasn’t coded to take advantage. So with 16gb and sd, I can’t see this being an issue.

16gb if fine for most Lite to normal users.  Phones are like pc’s the more storage avalible the more crud you collect.

                I have 128gb space and used 73gb!!! It wasn’t long ago I had a 30gb laptop.

                Simply  laziness.

The new Asus Zenphone looks like it will gobble up space too!

Mrs B said that I need to update my own phone, so I’ve just bought one for myself ?

Ed that’s a crazy price given the cpu in it. Not a bad chip by any means, but over 12mo this old now.

I seen earlier the pixel 2 will have the 836 and should be £100 cheaper iirc my Pixel was £725. Hardly cheap, and imo not worth the price. But I don’t think any top tier is, given the run below isn’t that far behind in everyday performance.

Tbh the Moto e 2015 or even the Moto g4 (2016) arnt slow. If you didn’t have access to a say pixel or sgs8 you’d not think twice about it. Going the other way,  from the pixel to the 2015 Moto E, you defo can tell the 1/10 slower reaction. But it’s hardly an issue.

Also even the most demanding of games scale well on android, the likes of Real Racing 3, works just as good on either device, with not much in the way of graphics loss. You wouldn’t tell unless side by side.

I suspect that the Asus premium is for the laser/rangefinder and AR software.

I don’t think so ed, laser focus is fairly common  now, and I’m not sure how true their marketing claim of first AR/VR is. The pixel was sold with a free Google VR headset, thou I never claimed mine.

This asus will be a great phone, but at £800, I’m not sure. Well Im very sure, its not worth the price.

£800 would buy a lot of string and thousands of cans…??

Yes Bob it does seem a huge price, but remember a 48K Sinclair Spectrum in today’s money would have inflated to ~£650!

That Asus is nice but way too much £.

Only makes sense if you’re heavily into VR and you have an expensive contract which you use of all the allowances.
