As the title says tonight, channel 4 KO 7.45 I think. I have not seen or heard any footy for over a month now so I’ll be watching.
Americans: Over Sexed, Over Payed and Over here, Wat Wat!
July 19, 2017 at 6:23 pm #10335Thanks Lee, I’ll be watching that.

July 20, 2017 at 12:01 pm #10350They were unstoppable! Passing and movement was at times, better than the senior men’s team have demonstrated recently. Scotland were not actually bad, just overwhelmed by better, fitter players with better coaching.

I'm out.July 20, 2017 at 3:58 pm #10352I don’t know the state of Scottish ladies football, but England are starting g to see the merits of having a professional women’s league. Iirc it’s only been about 3 years since the women’s game has gone pro in England.
Before this hardly any women got paid, even at big Premier league clubs it was an a mature affair. Where only de entries players would play, and the real cream had to go abroad.
Having a pro set up, where all they have to do is concentrate on football and train daily, is paying off nationally now. We done well in the last world cup.
I’m not a big England fan, the games are a nuisance that get in the way of real football, I’d love the women to win a big Compition just to rub the men’s nose in it. Lol
July 24, 2017 at 3:14 pm #10466Watched them again last night. They was not as good as they was playing sweden the other day but still won 2.0 against Spain. That Jodi Taylor is something else, realy does them proud. My opinion on the womens football is that it is proper football again and none of the fancy foot wigling and not so much drama queen of the mens football. It’s a pleasant change. It proper bucketed down to, suprised the match was not stopped.

July 24, 2017 at 3:38 pm #10468The women’s game is coming on, but it’s still to slow and the lack of skill and amount of loose balls is noticeable. It’s like watching first division footy. A few gems, but mostly frustrating to watch.
However Lee, after 2 years of VG and José, most footy probably looks more exciting to a united fan.
July 24, 2017 at 7:46 pm #10471Not taken any notice of Manu the past year, Bradford City is my team now, League 1, yes but I find it much better to watch, well, listen to anyhow Saturday afternoon and Tuesday evenings listening to the Bantams on my 1940’s wireless with a beer, a quiet cat either side me and in winter, early dark nights fire on and I am a happy chap.
The problem I become to find with watching Manu or Secretly Totanham is it had come to the point were I found my self less fussed whether they won or not, I did not get pissed off if they lost and if they won then hey, so they should was my atitude. Then a couple of years back I started to listen to Bradford and all the exciment is back. If they loose my whole day is ruined, but if they win I feel the day is the best day ever and I am over the moon.
None the less, atleast one liverpool team as now got a proper player. ROONEY, ROONEY, ROONEY. 🙂

July 25, 2017 at 7:45 am #10486I know he is going to come back and score against us, but the guy is well past it. Hopefully he gets used used as a goal poacher, as he ain’t got the legs of a midfielder. It’s taken along time for the Blues to get over his leaving, even though he had no choice in it.
I like watching spurs, but have no intrest in them winning, past few years Liverpool have been lucky, with a decent style of play, I doubt it will ever win us much, it’s to “exciting” meaning we tend to forget to defend. Where as VG and José, know how to win, boring defensive football. Take one point of them around you and bully the small teams.
There is a great stat from his Chelsea days (first stint) they went about 2 seasons unbeaten at home, always usually “2-0 to the chelsea” was the chant.
Now that sounds amazing to all us other fans, but strangely the attendance steadily dropped, as everyone knew it would be another defensive mastermind and drogpa would grab 2.
To much of a good this apparently is not good. More so, I thinks it’s they way you go about it.
All BS aside, I’d apply go one boring season and win, please please please lol.
Hopefully VVD can strengthen us, but I don’t think it’s going to be that simple. All out Centre backs, seems to be made of glass. It’s not non of them are bad, it’s whey never get more than 4 game run together.
The season is approaching. With we would opt of of international football, and play a summer league, then have home nations of the Xmas two weeks. That would be my fix for football. To many years have I spent freezing in nov-feb.
July 25, 2017 at 7:13 pm #10508Steve your best Centre back was Larry Lloyd and Forest nicked him after he got bored at Coventry. Next thing he knew, he was holding the Euro Cup. Twice!
Larry is still commentating for Radio Nottingham and BBCTV East Midlands. I have his biography which he signed for me, along with most of the 70’s and 80’s teams who won so much. Met him several times, he is a proper Bristolian lad, every time I see him again he seems to have put on another couple of stone. Massive guy now. I was once on holiday at Ilfracombe and coming off the beach at sunset, when a huge bloke loomed out of the dusk with a nipper on each shoulder. That was the first time I met the guy, had a drink with him later. What a character he is, his book is really interesting.

I'm out.July 25, 2017 at 7:26 pm #10510Seen David fairclough last year, at a liverpool dinner, (may of been the year before, I cant keep track of time), he was flogging his book, but he is always around the club, alot of the old guard are. We need to keep some winners around. Lol, seriously nice guy, very humble. Sad in a way that these legends never made huge money, and are now wheeled out at the weekend to meet and greet.
See Grobalar and his daughter almost every time i go the game, he is more mental in real life, and he must be 60 now. Much taller in real life. He doesn’t do the meeting and greeting, he is God father to my mates kids. He seats in the stands to, which I love. Especially when he winces are our current keeper. Though he was much improved last season. The season before, there was an Audible sound of intake of air, whenever the ball when near him. It must of put so much extra pressure on him. Though he done good last season. Figures crossed for this time around.
July 26, 2017 at 12:04 pm #10520Yes I remember Grobelaar, Zimbabwe guy and I remember some of the saves I wish he had not made against Forest! The Trent End loved him, he was real entertainment. Once did a cartwheel along the goal-line after the Trent – enders applauded a fantastic save. A nutter, but the kind of player that football does not have many of today.
Shilton was a great goalie, but a boring bloke, appeared to have no personality when I met him at an old players do. Fortunately Robbo ” (John Robertson) was there to entertain us. Strangely, Robbo and Shilts were best mates, still are today. They always roomed together, I think Shilts was quiet because he couldn’t get a word in!
I remember taking a mate who was a Mansfield Town supporter to a Forest game one Saturday. He couldn’t understand why we were not applauding the saves Shilton made. “That’s because he does it every week, it gets boring.” He became a Forest supporter, still buys a season ticket.
I hope we have a better time this season. Seems that the management are relying on the Academy kids and a few signings now. A lot of money gone into the club from the new Greek billionaire owner, most being spent on the Academy. We just sold our top scorer from last season – Britt Assombalonga – to Middlesborough – for £15 million. Wait until they find out how injury-prone he is! He scored 14 last season and only played half a season.
You’re not the only ones needing to keep the winners around, but I have a feeling that Liverpool are going to win something this season. That should probably put the mockers on it, my forecasts are always wrong! But they do play football I like to watch, just be better if they could defend.

I'm out.July 26, 2017 at 1:03 pm #10521We’ll have VVD soon, and if Matip keeps fit, we should be much improved at the back.
Alot of money into the academy can only be a good thing, to many clubs, want instant success, look how well it turned out for Leeds. Some nice stability and maybe a few kids coming though over the next few years, could push you to acknowledge up the leagues.
Though like you, my predictions are always well off the mark. I can’t see Liverpool winning anything, but I it cos I don’t think they are good, it’s just we now have a great top 6 plus Everton want to push, and west ham have done well this window, so I can see them pushing Everton. Let’s hope they can push united into 8th. Very much doubt it.
Very disappointed in spurs atm, I love their model of slow growth and re investment, but now is the time they need to spend big on two players if they want to kick on and win the the league. If I was a spurs fan I wouldn’t be happy atm.
Not that we have done better, but I think VVD and Keita will be here with two weeks, and unless Naymar goes to PSG, barca can’t afford (fifa fair play) coutinio ?
Also if coutinio has another good season, I can see both barca and Madrid coming in for him. Ronaldo will be 35 by next summer, they need a replacement, if that’s the case, he can name his price, with them two fighting over him.
July 26, 2017 at 4:12 pm #10527Daniel Levy, the Spurs’ chairman, is a very business-oriented guy. His view of the ridiculous spending by some top Premier Laegue clubs is one I agree with: https://tinyurl.com/y86ctmnr
Spurs are building their new stadium this coming season and will play their home games at Wembley until it’s ready. The new stadium will be purpose-built to be an entertainment centre, as well as a sports venue, from concerts to other sports including American football. US ‘football’ is something I detest, but it is growing in popularity and Levy wants a big slice of the pie. The future of British football is not going to be supported by continually paying silly money for players IMO, but by club owners who see the value of investing in the future.
http://new-stadium.tottenhamhotspur.com/
Retail, conferences, cafes, a hotel: if it all comes off OK, it will be a moneyspinner for the club. I think Levy is creating something that doesn’t just need football to make money and finance buying players. Time will tell, I guess.

I'm out.July 27, 2017 at 12:07 am #10532I agree on his approach, I just think his timings are awful. This ground rebuild couldn’t of come at a worse time, for the position of the club.
Regarding the new build, alot of spurs fans are a little scared about the relative silence around how the the project is financed. So hopefully they don’t need to start off loading players to pay for it. Well I suppose with the new tv money, not buying players, is the same as not spending that cash on players.
Regarding the income of the ground, it’s no less relevant than ever before, but a good back up, for if/when the tv bubble bursts.
liverpools gate receipts for last season is “only” £70m, I think out top line was about 550-600m.
If the tv money was a known quantity in 2010 when FSG decided to invest (well intrest free loan) the best part of £200m in to an expansion that will rake in an extra £15m, would they of done that?
It’s depended on what the owner wants out of the club I suppose, ours want to maximise the club worth and sell it. Cost him £300m push £200m in test free loan to lfc, but wad was values last year at £1bn another.
But I think most clubs, it’s now not worth the £100m to add 3k seats. Not when BT/sky will be giving you £150m every year.
July 27, 2017 at 10:02 pm #10557Well the girls got through to the quarter finals against Portugal, 2-1. Hard luck on Scotland, who battled hard to beat Spain by 1-0, but couldn’t find the second goal which would have taken them through. Clare Balding and Jermaine Jennas were talking to scouse goalscorer Toni Duggan at the end of the match. The interviewers could have done with an interpreter – Steve?
Luckily I once had a gf in L14 and a mate from Bootle, but SWMBO was baffled. I started to explain the footy terms to her, but her eyes glazed over. As usual..
